E-Learning Courses

Disparities in achievement persist for many student groups. Creating school communities that are inclusive and responsive to the cultural strengths and histories of all students is critical for promoting student success. Culturally Responsive Teaching Professional e-Learning courses engage participants in professional learning experiences through an online environment. Each course consists of highly engaging interactive material, which introduces participants to the foundational knowledge and practices, as well as dispositions, necessary to create and sustain culturally responsive learning communities.

The Culturally Responsive Teaching Courses are for educators interested in knowledge to build sustainable educational communities focused on improving learning outcomes for students and their families who are culturally and linguistically diverse.

The Cultures Matter: Understanding Cultures in Everyday Practice series includes 3 courses:

1. Equity Matters: Culture as Practice
   This first course is centered around educators' reflections on their own individual and group identities and building understanding about how one's culture impacts one's teaching.
2. Equity Matters: Leadership for Learning
   This course is centered focuses on progress and setbacks made towards achieving equitable educational systems, schools, and classrooms. Participants will build an understanding of educational access, participation, and outcomes as it relates to teaching and learning.
3. Equity Matters: Taking the Blinders off through Inquiry
   This course is centered is focused on practitioners developing an understanding of the strategies involved in creating culturally responsive classrooms. The activities included in this course will assist participants in applying their new knowledge to begin planning for and creating everyday culturally responsive practices within their own settings.

Learning to become culturally responsive requires deep reflection to discover the ways our own identities, dispositions, and beliefs impact student learning. Understanding is enriched when we participate with others in a community of learners. Those registering as a group will receive materials and activities to guide facilitated discussions and enhance the meaning-making process.
